Introduction

An authentic antique sword is a prized and rare possession. It is functionally similar to a modern day forged High Carbon Reproduction sword, so we are going to forgo writing a separate weapon review for it. We are, however, going to give an antique sword a slightly lower score in both the effectiveness and durability categories for a few reasons. This is due mainly to the age of the materials the weapon was constructed out of, and general wear and tear of the weapon. Items such as leather, cloth, or wooden grips tend to deteriorate over time and therefore lose some of their usefulness and stability, damaging the overall effectiveness and durability of the sword. Other things such as rust, pitting, nicks, and dings tend to lower the quality of the blade making it more prone to further damage. That being said, an older sword should still be combat effective, just not as reliable as something newly forged.
